I want to turn my attention to the top two contenders before I dive into my final Tour de France predictions. Vingegaard and Pogacar are the most talented competitors in this race. They’re the only two riders with short odds to win outright for a reason.
Vingegaard and Pogacar both deserve the recognition they’re getting. The two elite competitors continue to exceed expectations, and one of them is bound to win the Tour. Could someone else snatch the trophy? Yes, but Vingegaard and Pogacar are both at their best right now.
Jonas Vingegaard

In last year’s race, Vingegaard finished ahead of Pogacar to win his first Tour de France. He’s a favorite to defend his title and claim general classification victories in back-to-back years. Vingegaard has also shown that he can perform well on difficult terrain.
His victory in last year’s race remains his biggest achievement of all time. However, Vingegaard also has several other impressive wins in his young career. In 2023, he finished first in the Tour of the Basque Country, claiming three individual stages in the process.
Vingegaard can handle a grueling race with various challenges. Winning the Tour of the Basque Country against world-class competition sent a strong message to the cycling world. The Danish star is more than ready to take on the Tour de France again.
Tadej Pogacar

Pogacar is just as talented – and competitive – as Vingegaard. The 24-year-old Slovenian is also building an impressive legacy, even though he’s still pretty young. The two-time Tour de France champion seemingly conquers the competition at every turn.
With an incredible performance in the 2023 Paris-Nice, Pogacar is now seemingly invincible. He won three stages during the race and was in peak form the entire time. Pogacar also won the Vuelta a Andalucia this year, which is a daunting road race with multiple stages.
In the past three years, Pogacar hasn’t finished worse than second place in the Tour de France. He was runner-up behind Vingegaard last year, losing by a margin of just two minutes and 43 seconds.
I’m sure that hurt, so Pogacar will be hungry to retain the crown of the most prestigious cycling race in the world.
The Rest of the Field
Can someone stop Vingegaard and Pogacar? It’s highly unlikely because these two are just a level above the competition.

Who’s it going to be – Vingegaard or Pogacar? It’s a difficult decision to make. If I had to pick one of them, it’s Pogacar. I think he’s ready to redeem himself after a runner-up performance in 2022.
The guy loves the Tour, and his entire year is scheduled around peaking for this race. Another victory is a very likely scenario, so the odds of +125 seem generous.
