Ryder, Cup, Trophy

The Ryder Cup 2023 betting odds are available and include a bunch of different markets for the upcoming clash between Team USA and Team Europe. The rosters have also been finalized, so it’s time to explore the latest gambling opportunity and find the best bets.

Can the reigning champs from the US defend the title this year? Is Europe in a better position to win? I share my Ryder Cup 2023 predictions along with several betting picks in this article.

Ryder Cup Winner Betting Odds and Prediction

  • United States; -120
  • Europe; +125
  • Tie; +1200

Team USA has the edge over Team Europe in the latest betting odds on the Ryder Cup 2023. However, the lines of the best golf betting sites indicate that Team USA doesn’t hold a huge competitive advantage. If anything, these two teams are pretty evenly matched.

Let’s first focus on Team USA — the reigning Ryder Cup champion. The country has also won the competition in two of the previous three editions. The team this year is loaded with talented golfers once again.

Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, and Brooks Koepka will represent the US at the Ryder Cup. Those three players alone will cause a lot of trouble for Team Europe. Scheffler, who was a standout for Team USA in 2021, will compete in his second Ryder Cup.

Team USA also crushed Team Europe when they previously played. The final score was 19-9 — one of the largest margins of victory in the competition’s history. Dustin Johnson was the top scorer, although he won’t return to the Ryder Cup in 2023.

Can Team Europe rebound from a poor showing in 2021? When you look at the players on the roster, there’s no reason to believe they can’t win. They include Viktor Hovland, Jon Rahm, and Rory McIlroy — three elite golfers on the PGA Tour.

Recent history also favors Team Europe — they’ve captured seven of the previous 10 Ryder Cups. Team USA, on the other hand, has been more successful historically. However, that’s also because the original Great Britain Team became Team Europe in 1979.

It should be fairly close, but I believe that the Americans are stronger and should win this one. The odds are decent enough, so I’m going for it!

Odds:
-120
My Pick:
United States to win

Overall Correct Points Score Betting Odds and Prediction

  • Tie 14 – 14; +1200
  • USA 14.5 – 13.5; +1200
  • USA 15 – 13; +1200
  • Europe 14.5 – 13.5; +1400
  • Europe 15 – 13; +1400
  • Europe 15.5 – 12.5; +1600

The overall points score tends to vary from year to year. The way it works is that each team faces each other in singles matches and foursomes. The player/group with the best score after a full round of golf earns a point. Ties result in half points for each team.

In the past 10 Ryder Cups, the winning team has averaged nearly 17 points. The average margin of victory during that span was also more than five points. The Ryder Cup is typically competitive every year but point totals can vary significantly.

It’s also highly unlikely that the competition will end in a draw. In Ryder Cup history, which dates back to 1927, there have been just five ties. Furthermore, the last time the competition ended in a draw was in 1989.

Ultimately, I think Team USA and Team Europe will both deliver solid performances. The points score this year should be closer than recent Ryder Cups. I’ve got the US winning this one, but it won’t be by much.

That’s why I will place a small wager on the 15-13 score, the odds are just too tempting.

Odds:
+1200
My Pick:
USA 15 - 13

Top European Points Scorer Odds and Prediction

  • Rory McIlroy; +450
  • Jon Rahm; +500
  • Viktor Hovland; +550
  • Tommy Fleetwood; +700
  • Tyrrell Hatton; +700
  • Matt Fitzpatrick; +800

While betting on the Ryder Cup, make sure you consider the top scorer for Team Europe. The main favorite is Rory McIlroy, but Jon Rahm and Viktor Hovland are also incredible golfers. To defeat the Americans, however, McIlroy has to be one of the standouts.

The Irishman has six previous appearances in the Ryder Cup. He’s very familiar with what the competitive atmosphere is like. In 26 matches for his career, McIlroy has 12 total victories.

Rahm is equally capable of leading the Europeans in points. The Spanish player is having one of the best seasons on the PGA Tour. Rahm claimed his second major when he won at Augusta and had several top-10s in 2022-23.

In two Ryder Cup appearances, Rahm has posted a 4-3-1 record. He’s also been one of the top representatives of European golf over the past several years. If Rahm plays well, I expect him to earn at least three points.

Hovland is another player you could target when betting on the European points leader. The 25-year-old Norwegian has been one of the most consistent players in 2023 and recently won the BMW Championship, snatching it away from Scheffler in the final round.

I like Hovland a lot because he’s been performing well all season. He also finished top-10 at the Masters and was runner-up at the PGA Championship. The Norwegian is catching fire, and he could be the secret weapon for Team Europe.

If you add the odds of +550, picking Hovland is a no-brainer. The guy just shot a 27-under-par at the TOUR Championship, which is simply bonkers. I expect him to bring that same consistency to the Ryder Cup.

Odds:
+550
My Pick:
Viktor Hovland

Top USA Points Scorer Betting Odds and Prediction

  • Scottie Scheffler; +500
  • Brooks Koepka; +650
  • Patrick Cantlay; +650
  • Xander Schauffele; +650
  • Collin Morikawa; +900
  • Jordan Spieth; +900

The talent level of Team USA won’t make it easy to predict the points leader. Scheffler, Koepka, and Cantlay are in the mix to finish on top. Each of them is capable of claiming five points if they play their best golf.

Let’s begin with Scheffler, who’s been pretty dominant throughout the past year. He didn’t miss the cut once while competing in the 2022-23 PGA Tour, which is pretty impressive. Scheffler also had top-10s in the Masters, U.S. Open, and PGA Championship.

The star currently holds the top overall world ranking in men’s pro golf. He also just set the PGA Tour record for the most money won in a single season. Although Scheffler can also struggle at times, he’s also known to rebound from bad performances.

Cantlay will compete in his second Ryder Cup this year. He’s also no stranger to performing well in major competitions. In the previous Ryder Cup, Cantlay was sensational — he went 3-0-1 and helped lead the US to victory.

Unfortunately, Cantlay didn’t deliver any victories during the 2022-23 PGA Tour. However, he had 10 finishes in the top 10, so he’s been pretty consistent. Cantlay tied for ninth place at the PGA Championship — his only top-10 performance at a major in 2023.

Brooks Koepka is another impact player representing Team USA. He’ll be competing in his fourth Ryder Cup, having posted a 6-5-1 record in previous appearances. In 2023, Koepka captured his fifth major when he won the PGA Championship.

Although Koepka took his talents to LIV Golf, the 33-year-old American still competes in PGA majors. In addition to winning the PGA Championship, Koepka finished tied for second at the Masters. I think he’ll be a major asset for Team USA.

And yet, I feel like the reasonable Ryder Cup prediction for this market is to back Scottie Scheffler. He’s been a major threat in every tournament this season, showing remarkable consistency at the highest level.

Odds:
+500
My Pick:
Scottie Scheffler

Top USA Rookie Points Scorer Betting Odds and Prediction

  • Max Homa; +180
  • Sam Burns; +200
  • Wyndham Clark; +260
  • Brian Harman; +425

I now want to turn my attention to the Ryder Cup rookies for Team USA. All four newcomers this year are in the mix to finish with the most points scored. The main favorite is Max Homa, who’s had an excellent season during the 2022-23 PGA Tour.

A lot of bettors will pick Homa because of his recent form. He’s had top-10 finishes in each of the last four tournaments he’s played. This includes his best performance at a major – tied for 10th place in the Open Championship.

There was also a stretch during the season in which Homa was pretty inconsistent. Between April and June, he missed the cut four times. However, Homa also finished eighth in the Wells Fargo Championship in early May.

Homa’s main challenger is Sam Burns, who was selected for the team by captain Zach Johnson. The 27-year-old has five PGA Tour wins in his career. He’s known for his incredible putting skills and short game.

Wyndham Clark is another player who could lead the American rookies in points. He had his breakthrough performance at the Wells Fargo Championship in May. Clark then went on to claim the US Open — the first PGA major he’s ever won.

His confidence at the moment and the excellent odds are why I prefer picking Clarck to score the most points of any American rookie. He’s one of those golfers who doesn’t have any major weaknesses in his game. Clark also finished third in total birdies on the 2022-23 PGA Tour.

Odds:
+260
My Pick:
Wyndham Clark

Top European Rookie Points Scorer Betting Odds and Prediction

  • Ludvig Aberg; +180
  • Nicolai Hojgaard; +250
  • Sepp Straka; +250
  • Robert MacIntyre; +350

Now, I want to turn my attention to the European rookies in this year’s Ryder Cup. Ludvig Aberg is the newcomer that bookies favor to score the most points. He’s followed by Nicolai Hojgaard, a 22-year-old player from Denmark who’s known as an elite distance driver.

Aberg has so much potential that developing into an elite golfer looks inevitable. He made nine PGA Tour starts during the 2022-23 season, and his performances were impressive. His best finish was fourth place in the John Deer Classic.

Similar to Aberg, Hojgaard hasn’t played a lot of golf on the PGA Tour. He’s got two victories on the European Tour in his young career. His best performance in a PGA event was runner-up in the Corales Puntacana Championship.

Could Sepp Straka or Robert MacIntyre score the most points among the European rookies? Honestly, Aberg is by far the best player in the group and picking him is the safe option. The price of +180 makes this one of the best bets for the Ryder Cup 2023.

Odds:
+180
My Pick:
Ludvig Aberg

Top Overall Points Scorer Betting Odds and Prediction

  • Scottie Scheffler; +750
  • Jon Rahm; +900
  • Rory McIlroy; +900
  • Viktor Hovland; +1100
  • Patrick Cantlay; +1200
  • Brooks Koepka; +1400

Predicting the top scorer in this year’s Ryder Cup is a difficult task. These are the most gifted players on earth going head-to-head. Scheffler is the main favorite, but Rahm, McIlroy, and Hovland will challenge him the entire way.

I already discussed how Scheffler is one of the most consistent golfers on the PGA Tour. He’s a superstar at 27 years old and was instrumental in Team USA’s dominant performance in 2021. He’s such a good player that it’s difficult for me to bet against him.

Rahm and McIlroy are also worthy options. McIlroy has competed in the Ryder Cup since 2010, although he’s never been the top points scorer. Rahm led Team Europe with 3.5 points in 2021, but he’ll have to do better to finish ahead of everyone.

Can Hovland finish with the most points in the Ryder Cup? He’s one of the hottest golfers on earth and firing on all cylinders. However, Hovland also faces tough competition against Team USA.

I really can’t go against Scheffler here. He’s the No. 1 golfer in the world, and the price at which he’s available (+750) is too good to pass up. I think Scheffler will deliver another magical performance.

Odds:
+750
My Pick:
Scottie Scheffler
