Lol, MSI, Logo, Awards, Trophy

The best LoL teams from all over the globe will gather for the grand rehearsal for the Worlds– the Mid-Season Invitational! The MSI 2023 betting odds are already out, and we know the teams, so it’s time for my analysis of the favorites, the lines, and the format.

I go through all the important information about the tournament before finishing with my LoL MSI 2023 prediction and betting pick. Let’s start with the odds.

LoL MSI 2023 Betting Odds

  • JD Gaming; +200
  • T1; +250
  • G; +275
  • Bilibili Gaming; +800
  • G2; +1500
  • Cloud9; +1800

The MSI 2023 odds of the top LoL betting sites tend to favor the Chinese powerhouse JD Gaming and the Korean juggernaut T1. Gen.G is also in the mix after winning the LCK 2023 Spring playoffs in early April.

The bookies expect one of these three LoL squads to win the Mid-Season Invitational, and I agree with their assessment. No other team has shown the quality and consistency to go all the way.

LoL Mid-Season Invitational 2023 Format

Riot Games will be adopting a new format this year for the Mid-Season Invitational. The Play-In and bracket stages will remain the same for the most part. The main difference is that Riot Games eliminate the group stage.

Thirteen teams from nine regions will be competing. Eight of those teams will be directly seeded into the play-in stage. They’ll compete in two double-elimination brackets played in Bo3 series. The winners of each bracket go to the bracket stage, with a third qualification spot up for grabs.

Eight teams will then compete in a double-elimination bracket, so there’s room for error. Every match follows the Bo5 format, including the finals. The prize pool is worth $250,000, with the winner taking home $50,000.

The regions and teams representing them (in brackets) in the 2023 MSI tournament are listed below.

  • North America (Cloud9, Golden Guardians)
  • EMEA (MAD Lions, G2 Esports)
  • Korea (GenG, T1)
  • China (JD Gaming, Billbill Gaming)
  • Vietnam (GAM Esports)
  • Latin America (Movistar R7)
  • Japan (Detonation FM)
  • Brazil (Loud)
  • Pacific (PSG Talon)

The tournament will take place in London at the Copper Box Arena. Massive crowds are expected to attend the event in person. The Mid-Season Invitational also has huge implications for the LoL global rankings.

LoL MSI 2023 Top Favorites

If you want to bet on the 2023 MSI winner, you must study the main favorites. The tournament this year is pretty top-heavy, and I don’t expect a surprising champion.

The two best squads from Korea and the top Chinese side will likely dominate, so let’s focus on them before I share my LoL MSI predictions for 2023.

JD Gaming

  • Region: China
  • Key Player: 369
  • Global Ranking: 3rd

JD Gaming is as good as they come in competitive LoL. The roster is stacked with talent, and the team is led by 369 – one of the best players alive. The top laner is a killing machine that can decide any game almost on his own.

369 excels in several key categories, including kill participation, damage per minute, and damage share.

The biggest criticism against JD Gaming is that they depend too much on 369. However, I’m not sure I agree with such a statement.

The individual skill level of every roster member is insane too, and their coordination helped JD Gaming win the LPL Spring Playoffs in 2023. The guys complement 369 perfectly, and I expect a dominant performance in the Mid-Season Invitational.

T1

  • Region: Korea
  • Key Player: Zeus
  • Global Ranking: 1st

T1 holds the top spot in the LoL global rankings for a reason. The team is a force of nature, continuing the strong performances from 2022 in the new year. However, T1 has also come up short in the critical moments of several major tournaments since the LCK 2022 Spring Playoffs.

T1 lost the Worlds 2022 Finals against DRX and suffered the same fate against Gen.G in the Spring Playoffs this year.

Does that make T1 a less dominant team? No, because Zeus and Keria form one of the most consistent duos in competitive LoL. They’ve been a step behind when it mattered the most, but it was a baby step, and I expect them to bounce back.

And yet, their failures on the last hurdles make me reluctant to back T1 when the odds for the squad stand at only +250.

Gen.G

  • Region: Korea
  • Key Player: Doran
  • Global Ranking: 2nd

Gen.G is another team that is potentially a good 2023 LoL MSI betting pick. Their confidence is at an all-time high, having just won the LCK 2023 Spring Playoffs. Now, the goal is to continue riding that wave of success.

What I love about Gen.G is that they never make it easy for their opponents. No matter who they’re facing, you can expect them to give it their all. That tenacious attitude is a big reason why Gen.G is among the MSI betting favorites in 2023.

NOTE:

If you add the strong drafts, the excellent coordination, and the impeccable mechanics from each member on the roster, it's hard to bet against Gen.G. I expect to see this team in the top 3 when it’s all said and done.

They already defeated T1 in the LCK this year, so we know they can go all the way. At the same time, I feel like JD Gaming is slightly stronger.

LoL MSI 2023 Predictions and Betting Pick

JD Gaming is the team to beat right now. The roster is on another level, and I expect a monstrous performance in the upcoming MSI.

The team can outdraft and outplay anyone, not to mention how efficient JD Gaming is at utilizing the map. The team’s GPM provides an advantage that very few teams can overcome.

Only the Koreans could stop JD Gaming, but I prefer the main favorite. The MSI winner odds of +200 are enough for me to back the best Chinese squad.

Odds:
200
My Pick:
JD Gaming to win
