It’s time to turn my attention to the main favorites in the race. These top contenders have the best chance of winning the general classification. I always recommend doing your homework before submitting your Giro predictions.
Everyone knows that Evenepoel and Roglic are two of the best racers in the world. However, neither of them has won the Giro d’Italia. That’s why the best sports betting sites all suggest that the race will witness a first-time winner this year.
Remco Evenepoel
- Age: 23
- Team: Soudal–Quick-Step
The Belgian newcomer is already well-established in the world of pro cycling. Evenepoel has won several major events in his young racing career, including the Vuelta a Espana. However, there’s another reason why he enters the event as the main favorite.

The problem is that he’ll be turning 34 years old soon and coming after a season full of injuries. Still, Roglic was able to win the 2023 Volta a Catalunya despite his recent struggles.
Is Roglic still at the top of his game? He’s off to a strong start in 2023 and not showing any signs of slowing down. Roglic is also arguably in the best shape of his career, but again, his age could be catching up to him soon.
Overall, I think Roglic is a solid betting option to win the race. At the 2023 Tirreno–Adriatico, he finished first in the general classification while winning multiple stages. That’s a good sign the Slovenian is fit and ready for bigger triumphs.
Geraint Thomas

Here’s another veteran cyclist who will be hoping to perform well at the Giro. Geraint Thomas will turn 37 years old right before the Giro d’Italia begins. This could be one of his last chances to win another Grand Tour in his career.
When it comes to Giro d’Italia, Thomas also tends to struggle. His best finish was 80th back in 2012. Since then, he’s had two DNFs in the race, which includes a bad crash in 2020 in which he broke his pelvis.
Thomas’ career includes plenty of milestones and accomplishments. He was the 2018 Tour de France champion, although this was the only Grand Tour race he ever won. Thomas is still an excellent competitor, but the Giro d’Italia hasn’t been favorable to him.
Aleksander Vlasov

Aleksander Vlasov is another name that you need to watch in this race. His career took off in 2019 when he won the Russian National Road Championships. Since then, he’s only gotten better, and I expect a lot from him soon.
It’s only a matter of time before Vlasov wins a Grand Tour race. He finished fifth in the 2022 Tour de France and fourth in the 2021 Giro d’Italia, so Vlasov is knocking at the door.
2023 Giro d’Italia Prediction and Betting Pick
I’m going with Roglic to win it all when with my Giro d’Italia 2023 predictions. He’s in peak form and has a ton of momentum entering the race. The Slovenian’s experience should also benefit him because he knows what it takes to win a Grand Tour event.
The other contenders deserve respect, but I believe Roglic has the best combination of experience and current fitness to win the Giro. The odds of +200 for him are high enough, so I’m going for it.
