Casino and Sportsbook Review

Customer Service: was launched back in 2007, in the aftermath of the UIGEA bill becoming law in the United States. When that law came into effect, there was widespread turmoil in the American online gaming market. The owners of decided to double down and continue to take real money wagers from Americans. While that comes with additional risk, it is great to see another site that provides this option to US gamblers. is based in Costa Rica and has a license from the Curacao Gaming Authority. This license is likely a requirement of their software suppliers, but it doesn’t hold much weight in the eyes of players. Curacao has long been known as an operator-friendly jurisdiction, especially when it comes to sites that continue to operate in the US.

Who Can Play at

You can imagine that if a site decided to take players from the most volatile online gambling country, their policy is pretty loose when it comes to others, as well. I went searching for a list of restricted countries on their website and didn’t find any.

This leads me to believe that there are no restrictions as to where players come from. I can tell you that historically, sites based in Costa Rica and licensed in Curacao typically restrict play from those two countries, but aside from that, I think you will find that you can create an account here no matter where you are from.

Software Suppliers

The site has had its fair share of online casino partners since its launch, and that is usually the first red flag for a reviewer like myself. I would much prefer to see a site stick with one supplier over the long haul, as that means the relationship has been working for both sides. Regardless, at this point, is powered by SoftSwiss, a smaller online casino white label solution.

The Good Stuff

US Player Friendly

Green Thumbs Up

This may seem like an obvious piece of good news, but given how few options there are these days for sites that are open to Americans, I feel that it needs to be included in this section. There are, of course, risks associated with playing at a site like this, but as you will see in the review, I feel that ten years of being in business helps the site’s cause.

Multiple Language Supported

Many operations are only targeting English-speaking players, but not BetPhoenix. In fact, the site explains on their pages that it was designed to bring together the western and eastern worlds of gambling. To that end, the site is available in English, Vietnamese, Chinese, and Spanish.

Bonuses Everywhere!

Wow! I was blown away by the number of different bonuses spread across both the sportsbook and casino. This is a reviewer’s dream, as there are too many sites that have limited offers that don’t do enough to attract and retain players. I will review the promotions in more detail later on in this review.

The Bad Stuff

Limited Casino Game Selection

Red Thumbs Down

This one isn’t all that surprising, considering the site is primarily a sportsbook. However, I would like to see the addition of some more casino titles. SoftSwiss supports several different developers through its platform, so perhaps the company can assist in bringing more games on board to the BetPhoenix offering.

Historical Payout Issues

I never like to see this when I am reviewing a site. There are many player complaints about slow paying from the site. However, as the majority of them seem to be from a few years ago, I am willing the give the folks at the benefit of the doubt until I find a reason to change my mind.

Game Selection

From a casino perspective, you may be better served looking at other options available, especially if you do not live in the US. It is clear that has a casino to complement its sportsbook business. However, the games they do have play well and are available in non-download formats that can be accessed from a PC or from your mobile device. Let’s have a look at each section of the casino in more detail.

Video Poker

I always like to start my playing review of a casino with the video poker section. Video poker is an excellent game for players, as it is very quick, involves some strategy, and has excellent payout rates. In fact, if you find the right game and pay table, you can even get the odds back towards your favor, if ever so slightly.

When I hit the casino lobby, I was pleased to find a video poker tab. However, when I clicked on that tab, what I found were table games with a poker theme – there were no video poker games to be found! I did some more investigating and finally came across two video poker machines under the “all games” tab.

This is truly a disappointment to me. The site should know that the crossover value of video poker to a sports gambler is high, so they should add more titles as soon as possible. Oh, and they should sort out their casino lobby, so the games are actually labeled correctly.

At, you can play either:

  • Joker Poker
  • Jacks or Better

Table Games

Again, due to some challenges with sorting the games, it took a bit of time to sort out where all the table games are located. I gave the blackjack and roulette games a good session and was pleased to find some games with excellent speed, and they seemed to play without any issue. While I would like to see them expand to include all the table games that are available at many of their competitors’ sites, at the very least you can get your fix with the following games:

  • Double Exposure Blackjack
  • Multi-Hand Blackjack
  • Multi-Hand Blackjack Pro
  • Pontoon
  • Blackjack Surrender
  • Baccarat
  • Hi-Lo Switch
  • Let it Ride
  • Trey Poker
  • American Roulette
  • European Roulette
  • French Roulette
  • Texas Hold’em
  • Oasis Poker
  • Casino Hold’em
  • Caribbean Poker

Typically, when I review an online casino, I have to wade through hundreds of slots titles to find the best ones to recommend to my readers. This is definitely not the case at, as the site only offers fifteen slot machines in total. I can see where the company is coming from, as most sportsbook players are not slots players, usually choosing table games or video poker as their casino favorites. However, if you are so inclined, the slots catalog has some excellent graphics and gameplay. It’s too bad there aren’t more games to choose from, but here is what you will find:

  • Aztec Magic
  • Lucky Blue
  • Platinum Lightning
  • Lucky Lady’s Clover
  • Brave Viking
  • Princess Royal
  • Lucky Sweets
  • Hawaii Cocktails
  • Cherry Fiesta
  • Crazy Starter
  • Fantasy Park
  • West Town
  • Princess of Sky
  • Book of Pyramids
  • Desert Treasure

Live Casino

Amazingly, the casino does offer some live dealer games among the relatively small catalog of titles in their casino lobby. If you haven’t played live dealer games before, I highly recommend them. Having a dealer on a video feed makes the games feel more realistic, and the speed of play is far closer to that of a land-based casino.

You can try these games in the live casino section of the website:

  • Baccarat
  • Blackjack
  • Roulette

As I mentioned, is primarily a sportsbook site. So, you won’t be shocked to see that there are a huge number of betting options for you when it comes to sports. I personally love to get some action down on many different sports, so testing out this software was a lot of fun for me.

The user interface of the sportsbook is excellent. I was able to navigate to the games and sports I was looking for easily, as well as scroll through other bets that I might find intriguing.

Here are just some of the sports and categories that are offered by

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Hockey
  • Baseball
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • Golf
  • Boxing
  • Mixed Martial Arts
  • Motor Sports
  • Esports
  • Cricket
  • Rugby
  • Darts
  • Snooker
  • Aussie Rules
  • Cycling
  • Entertainment
  • Politics

I was pleased to see esports represented on the list. The growing popularity of the digital gaming offering is only eclipsed by the amount of wagering on the matches. This is a great way for sites like to attract younger gamblers to their site.

Most sites have one or two main offers available to their players, but not! The site is clear on one thing:

Important Box Icon

They want to give you a bonus no matter what game you are playing or how long you have been a player!

This is excellent news for all my readers, as these bonuses can often be the difference between being a winning and losing player at the end of a session. Let’s take a look at some of the offers below:

Welcome Bonus

The welcome bonus at the sportsbook is a 175% match bonus to a maximum of $2,625. This is a fantastic bonus, but there are a couple of things to take note of in the terms and conditions:

  • The wagering requirement is 18x the deposit and fees and bonus money earned
  • This is only open to cash deposits
  • Minimum deposit is $100

Aside from that, it is an excellent promotion, but bear in mind that Western Union transactions come with heavy fees.

Credit Card Deposit Bonus

These bonuses are broken into three different categories, which I have consolidated into one for the purposes of this review:

10% Free Play Credit Card Bonus

  • Minimum reload deposit: $100
  • Maximum reload deposit: $500
  • Maximum bonus amount: $50
  • Rollover requirement: 2x

15% Free Play Credit Card Bonus

  • Minimum reload deposit: $100
  • Maximum reload deposit: $500
  • Maximum bonus amount: $75
  • Rollover requirement: 3x

20% Free Play Credit Card Bonus

  • Minimum reload deposit: $100
  • Maximum reload deposit: $500
  • Maximum bonus amount: $100
  • Rollover requirement: 4x

Again, a couple of things to note here. For one, it does not appear that these are limited to your first deposit, so you can continue to use the bonus codes for whatever credit card deposits you wish to make. As for the different percentages, you can clearly see that the wagering requirement changes for each bonus, but all three are quite low, which makes them easy to convert. I really like the way they have set these bonuses up, as they leave the decision to the player.

Casino Welcome Bonus

Any casino that splits its welcome bonus between the sportsbook and the casino is already a winner in my eyes. The two verticals are totally different when it comes to wagering amounts and earning bonuses, so the offers should also be different!

Bonus Info:

Offers for first-time casino players:$100 – $300: 500% bonus

Promo Code: WELCOME500

Bonus Terms and Restrictions:

  • Deposit must be in the range of $100 to $300
  • The maximum casino bonus to be awarded is $1500
  • The applicable bonus percentage is 500% of the amount deposited
  • Rollover requirements: 35x deposit plus bonus, maximum amount to cash out is 4x the deposited amount
  • Craps, roulette, and dice games are not allowed
  • 20% of the action on blackjack and any of its variations or baccarat count towards the rollover
  • 50% of the action on poker or video poker games count towards the rollover
  • Any applicable sports related wagering requirements will need to be satisfied prior to withdrawal of funds

So, while there are obviously some restrictions on the bonus and how it is earned, the fact that there is a different set of rules for the casino bonus than the sportsbook bonus means that you can decide which fits your playing style better before you make your first deposit.

Rotating Offers

At the time of writing this review, I found a Super Bowl promotion where you could win a cruise as first prize. I won’t list all the details of this offer, as it is clearly time-sensitive, but it shows that the site is constantly adding promotions to entice players with other offers that aren’t just deposit-based. This is a sign that the marketing department is engaged, and that is always a good thing for us players!

I wish there were more options available to make deposits and withdrawals from this site. However, given the unfriendly banking climate for online gaming sites in the US, I am not surprised that the options are limited.

Deposit Methods

  • Bitcoin
  • Western Union
  • Check via Mail
  • Bank Wire
  • Visa

Withdrawal Methods

  • Check
  • Bitcoin

VIP Program

There does not appear to be a VIP program listed on the site. However, it is most likely that if you are a loyal player or are betting large amounts, an internal VIP representative will contact you with a special offer or two.

Customer Service

Most sportsbook sites have a full customer service team in an office somewhere, as they take a significant number of bets over the phone. With that in mind, in almost every case where there could be a customer service issue, you are directed to give them a call. I am not necessarily a big fan of that, although you will at least get a real person on the phone, which should make it easier to have your issue resolved.

For me, the best way to contact a casino support team is via live chat. It is also in real time, but you will get a transcript of the conversation for your records.

If you want to get into more detail, you can also reach the site via email, although you should expect a response to take up to forty-eight hours to appear in your inbox. That is how long it took for me to get a response to my relatively simple question about my account when I tested it.

Would I Play at

Overall, I would say that my experience with was fine. I like the fact that they have a ton of bonus offers to take advantage of, and the sportsbook section of the site was robust. I was able to make bets quickly and keep track of my wagers with ease.

I would love to have seen an expanded casino offering from these guys, but given the limited software options available to a US-facing casino, this is about as good as you are going to get. If you just want the basics from an online casino, then the games at this site should suffice.

I am happy to recommend to my readers, but as always, you should only gamble with what you are comfortable losing. I encourage you to send me feedback on your experiences with the site. I will add information to this review, so the next reader has an even more in-depth overview of the sites.
