The Czech gambling industry is now thriving, and all gamblers can enjoy casino games, sports betting, and poker in a regulated, safe online environment. The Czech government has fully embraced both online and land-based gambling and it’s now a substantial tax generator for the Czech Republic.

Why Are These the Best Czech Republic Gambling Sites?
We put a lot of time into reviewing Czech Republic gambling websites, and our aim is to only recommend the best of the best. Whether it’s casinos, sports betting sites, or online poker sites, there’s no compromise when it comes to quality. But how do we make decisions about which sites get the green light?
While a lot of knowing which gambling sites are best comes with experience, we do have criteria we use to check sites against. We’re happy to tell you what we consider most important, although just as a good magician never reveals all of his secrets, we’ll keep a few of ours under wraps, too.
Here are some of the things we consider most important when reviewing Czech casino sites:
Security and Legitimacy
We can generally tell within one minute of visiting a Czech Republic betting site whether or not it’s legit. However, we dig a lot deeper than the surface level in our reviews. We check which licenses an operator has, find out which software companies power the games and services, and try to find out how existing players feel about the site. As you’ll see in our reviews, we provide in-depth background information on the sites we assess. Therefore, you can be sure you’re betting at a legit site when we give it the go ahead.
Every gambler is looking for something different, but we all want to enjoy the best quality in whatever it is we’re after. Casino players, sports bettors, and poker players can rest assured that we only recommend the best. We check the software providers, play a few rounds to make sure the games are legit, check the odds against other betting sites, and conduct quality checks on every service offered. We give all of the Czech gambling sites we review a score based on what we find.
All gambling sites accept your money within seconds, but sadly, some are less keen to give it back. Unlike a real-world casino where you can walk up and cash out your chips, when playing online you’re at the mercy of the banking policies. We give the Czech Republic gambling sites which pay on the same day the most points in our reviews. We’ll accept a pending time of 48 hours, but the site will have to be excellent in other ways. You can be sure you’ll get your money quickly when you play at our approved sites.
If for some reason you do encounter a problem or require assistance with something, you’ll be able to get in touch with the customer support team around the clock. All of our recommended sites offer support via email and live chat, and some of them even have telephone helplines you can call. Many other reviews sites don’t place much emphasis on customer support, but our experience tells us it’s one of the most important elements of player satisfaction.
Is Gambling Legal in Czech Republic?
Every kind of gambling is legal in the Czech Republic. Both land-based and online gambling are legal under the Gambling Act (2017). This law replaced the previous Act 202/1990 which did not recognize or regulate online gambling.
“A game, bet, or lottery where the participant places a bet, and both:
- There is no guaranteed return on the bet.
- The win/loss is either entirely or partially subject to chance or unknown circumstances.”
The Czech Gambling Act outlines specific categories of gambling, which include:
- Odds Betting
- Totalisator Games
- Technical Games
- Live Games
- Small-size Tournaments
Poker is not strictly defined within these categories and may fall under either technical games, live games, or small-sized tournaments, depending on the circumstances.
Slot machines fall under technical games, and betting may fall under either odds betting or totalisators, depending on what is being bet on.
Ever since this law passed, international operators have been able to offer Czech citizens gambling services. This means the number of Czech Republic gambling sites has increased greatly since then, providing a huge variety of sites for Czechs to bet at.
How Czech Republic Gambling Is Regulated
All Czech gambling activities are regulated by the Gambling Act, but there are a number of government bodies in charge of overseeing different aspects of the gambling industry.
- The Ministry of Finance – It grants licenses, imposes fines, etc.
- The Customs Administration – It is in charge of onsite controls for land-based gambling. It also checks compliance with the Gambling Act.
- Municipal Authorities – They have the power to block live games and bingos from happening in their jurisdictions.
These regulators also ensure that Czech casino sites and operators comply with other relevant laws such as anti-money laundering, personal data protection, and advertising regulations.
All tax on online gambling in the Czech Republic is regulated by the Gambling Tax Act. It sets tax rates as follows:
- 23% on gross gaming revenue or 35% for operators of technical games
- The above plus a 19% income tax rate on none-EEA operators
There are no limits on the numbers of licenses which may be issued, but operators have to comply with a few criteria:
- They have to make security deposits in case of bankruptcy or financial difficulties in making payouts
- Slots operators must impose 15-minute cooling off periods every two hours
- Players must be registered and vetted against all self-exclusion lists
- Czech casinos online must provide an indicator showing time spent playing
As you can see, Czech gambling sites offer a safe, highly regulated environment in which you can bet on sports, play casino games, participate in poker tournaments, and enjoy bingo/lottery games. It’s now one of the safest and most secure gambling industries in Europe and the world.
