The Orlando Magic visit the Vivint Smart Home Arena to take on the Utah Jazz on Tuesday night.
The Magic got back on the winning column after three consecutive losses. Orlando beat the New Orleans Pelicans last Sunday behind their comeback All-Star center Nikola Vucevic who returned from an ankle injury. On the other hand, the Jazz has won back to back games and three out of their last four games played. Utah defeated the Golden State Warriors in their last outing behind a hot scoring night from Bogdan Bogdanovic. The Jazz defeated the Magic 106-93 in Utah last January 19, 2019, in their last meeting.
Vucevic is Back
The Magic ended a three-game losing skid when they routed the New Orleans Pelicans on Sunday night. The Magic rolled to a 130-119 win over the Pelicans behind 20 points and 9 rebounds from the returning Nikola Vucevic. The All-Star center had not played since spraining his right ankle last November 20. With the win, the Magic moved to two games behind the .500 mark at 12-14 SU on the season.
Orlando made a season-high 17 three-pointers against the Pelicans and the Magic also saw a franchise record of eight players score in double figures against New Orleans. Vucevic is averaging 17.4 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. The nine-year pro had seven consecutive double-doubles before he got injured.
The Magic are next to last in the league in scoring at only 103.5 points per game. They are 17th in rebounding at 44.8 boards grabbed per contest and they are 23rd in passing at 22.7 assists per game. Orlando has the 6th best scoring defense in the NBA at 104.3 points per game allowed this year.
- Magic +195, Jazz -225

Bogdanovic Waxes Hot
The Utah Jazz head home after a 114-106 win over the Golden State Warriors. The win was Utah’s third in its last four games and their second straight. Bogdan Bogdanovic waxed hot for the Jazz against the Dubs. The sweet-shooting forward scored 32 points and made a career-high 8 three-pointers against Golden State.
Bogdanovic’s big game broke a three-game shooting slump where he just 13 out of 44 shots including 7 out of 21 three-pointers. Donovan Mitchell posted his fifth straight 20-point game with 28 points against the Warriors. Mitchell was happy to see Bogdanovic break his recent shooting struggles because he will need his scoring support against the Magic.
The Jazz are 22nd in the NBA in scoring at 107.0 points per game. They are 15th in rebounding at 45.1 boards per contest and the Jazz are also 27th in passing at 21.4 assists per game. Utah ranks 8th in the league in scoring defense at 106.4 points per game allowed this season.
Orlando is 1-3 SU in their last five games played. The Magic are 4-8 SU in 12 road games played this season, and 5-2 SU in their last seven games played against the Western Conference. Utah is 3-1 SU in their last four games played. The Jazz are 10-3 SU in 13 home games played this season, and 5-1 SU in their last six games against the Southeast Division. Head to head, the Jazz are 6-4 SU in their last 10 games played, and 8-2 SU in their last 10 home games against the Magic.
The Magic snapped a three-game losing streak with a win over the Pelicans in their last outing but more than that, they got their All-Star center back. Vucevic scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds in his return and he should lead Orlando in Utah on Tuesday night.
The Jazz have missed Mike Conley in their last five games due to a hamstring injury and it’s not certain if he will be back on Tuesday. The Jazz have seen Donovan Mitchell deliver five straight 20-point games and Utah has won three out of their last four games played.
Bogdanovic just broke out from a shooting slump and he should provide Mitchell with the much-needed scoring support especially if Conley continues to miss the action. The Magic will be rejuvenated with Vucevic back. However, the Jazz are 10-3 SU at home this season and the Magic have won just 4 of 12 on the road. I’m picking the Utah Jazz to beat the Orlando Magic on Tuesday.
Other Bets to Make
The Magic are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games played. Orlando is 5-0 ATS in their last five games played on the road, and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games played against the Northwest Division. The Jazz are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games played and 5-8 ATS in 13 home games played this season. Utah is 1-4 ATS in their last five games against the Eastern Conference, and 2-5 ATS in their last seven December games. Head to head, the Jazz are 3-1 ATS in their last four games played against the Magic.
- Magic +5.5 (-105), Jazz -5.5 (-115)
- Odds from SpinSports as of 12/16/19
The Jazz has outscored the Magic by an average of 6.2 points per game in their last 10 meetings and by 6.67 points per game in their last three head to head encounters. Vucevic is back for Orlando but Bogdanovic is coming off a big night which broke a recent shooting slump from him. I like the Jazz to win and cover the spread at home with Bogdanovic having another good game.
The total has gone over in four out of the last seven games played by the Magic. Orlando has seen the total go under in 13 out of their last 17 games played on a Tuesday. The total has gone over in four out of the last five games played by the Jazz. The over is 5-1 in Utah’s last six games played at home. Head to head, the under is 4-2 in the last six meetings between these two teams, including 3-0 in their most recent three encounters
The total has gone under in 8 out of the last 11 games played by Philadelphia. The Sixers have seen the total go under in seven out of their 12 road games played this season. The under is 10-4 in Philly’s last 14 games played against the Atlantic Division. The total has gone under in 9 out of the last 13 games played by Boston. The under is 6-4 in the Celtics’ 10 home games played this season. Head to head, the under is 5-3 in the last eight meetings between the Sixers and Celtics.
- Over 206.5 -110, Under 206.5 -110
- Odds from SpinSport as of 12/16/19
The Magic are a low-scoring and excellent defending team this season as they are 28th and 25th in the league, respectively. Meanwhile, the Jazz are in the bottom ten in scoring and the top 10 in defense. Orlando and Utah play a slow-paced game and I can see a defensive battle here. However, 206.5 points seem to low and Orlando has gotten over that total in each of their last seven games and Utah has eclipsed that total in nine out of their last 10 games played. I think this will be a low-scoring game but the total will go over 206.5.
