Iowa State vs Oklahoma 02/12/20 NCAA Basketball Betting Odds and Preview

Iowa State Cyclones vs Oklahoma Sooners Logos - NCAA Basketball Logo - College Basketball Teams Playing Background

The Iowa State Cyclones travel to the Lloyd Noble Center to meet conference rival Oklahoma on Wednesday night.

The Sooners opened their season with an impressive 11-3 record but after suffering an upset loss to this same Cyclones team last January 11, 2020, they have unraveled. Oklahoma is 4-5 in their last nine games played and just 5-5 in the Big 12. Meanwhile, Iowa State is just 10-13 on the year and 3-8 in conference action. The Cyclones head to this game having lost eight out of their last 11 games played and they will be playing without start Tyrese Haliburton who suffered a season-ending wrist injury in their last outing.

Losing Their Leader

The Iowa State Cyclones are coming off a 73-63 win over the Kansas State Wildcats on Saturday night but the win proved to be very costly as the Cyclones lost star player Tyrese Haliburton to a season-ending left wrist fracture right before halftime.

Haliburton is widely perceived to be a first-round pick in the 2020 NBA Draft and is one of the Top 10 prospects in the nation right now. The 6-5 sophomore was averaging 15.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 6.5 steals and 2.5 steals per game this season. Leading scorer Rasir Bolton will have to pick up the slack for the Cyclones. Bolton is averaging 15.3 points per game this season.

Iowa State is scoring an average of 74.0 points per game this season and is allowing opponents to score an average of 72.0 points per game. The Cyclones are pulling down 35.0 rebounds per game and are dishing off an average of 14.8 assists per game, 69th in the nation.

Moneyline Odds:

Sooners Topple West Virginia

The Oklahoma Sooners toppled 13th ranked West Virginia 69-59 at their home floor on Saturday night. Kristian Doolittle scored 27 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the Sooners who earned their first win over a ranked team this season. Six of Oklahoma’s next eight games will be against ranked or one spot out of the poll teams.

It was a surprise game for Doolittle who had not scored in double figures in the past three weeks. While Doolittle struggled, Brady Manek carried the offensive load for the Sooners. Against West Virginia though, Manek only managed 11 points but grabbed 8 boards and blocked two shots.

The Sooners are scoring an average of 70.9 points per game this season. They are also allowing their opponents to score only 67.5 points per game. Oklahoma is hauling down 36.6 boards per contest and they are averaging 12.0 assists per game.

Who Wins?

Iowa State is 1-4 SU in their last five games played and the Cyclones are 0-10 SU in their last 10 games played on the road. Oklahoma is 5-5 SU in their last 10 games played. The Sooners are 10-1 SU in their last 11 games played at home, and 5-14 SU in their last 19 February games. Head to head, the Cyclones are 6-1 SU in their last seven games played against the Sooners.

Iowa State upset Oklahoma 81-68 last month with Haliburton putting up 15 points, 8 assists, and 5 rebounds. With their star sidelined for this contest, the Cyclones face an uphill climb against the Sooners. However, they will still have the physical advantage over Oklahoma whom they outrebounded by 10 boards in their last meeting.

The Sooners have played inconsistent basketball in the second half of the season. That inconsistency has put a serious dent in their chances of going to the NCAA tournament. However, they still have enough time, and games, to cover lost ground. But it has to start here.

Oklahoma is 10-1 SU at home this season and I expect Manek, Reeves, and Doolittle to rise to the occasion and feed off their crowd. With a very beatable team in front of them, the Sooners should be able to do their job and complete business on Wednesday night. And don’t forget: ISU is winless in seven road games played this season.

Prediction: Oklahoma Sooners

Other Bets to Make

The Cyclones are 4-6 ATS in their last 10 games played. Iowa State is 1-4 ATS in their last five games played on the road, 2-5 ATS in their last seven Big 12 conference games, and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 February games. The Sooners are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games played. Oklahoma is 3-2 ATS in their last five home games, and 5-1 ATS in their last six games against the Big 12 conference. Head to head, the Cyclones are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games played against the Sooners.

Spread Odds:

  • Iowa State +10 (-115) | Oklahoma -10 (-105)
  • Odds from SportsBetting as of 02/12/20

The Sooners have been defeating their opponents at their home floor by an average of 9.67 points per game this season. Given that the Cyclones will be without their star and top scorer, Iowa State is going to be in a lot of trouble against Oklahoma here. The Sooners have been terrific at home this season and given that their NCAA tournament chances are slowly fading, I expect Oklahoma to come out with a purpose against this undermanned Iowa State team.

ODDS-105

MY PICK:
Oklahoma -10

The total has gone under in six out of the last 10 games played by Iowa State. The under is 3-2 in the Cyclones’ last five road games. The total has gone under in five out of the last six games played by Oklahoma. The under is 3-2 in the Sooners’ last five home games. Head to head, the total has gone under in 11 out of the last 16 games played between these two teams.

Over/Under Odds:

  • Over 145.5 (-105) | Under 145.5 (-115)
  • Odds from SportsBetting as of 02/12/20

Oklahoma has not allowed more than 69 points in nine out of their last 10 outings including their last eight. They are allowing only an average of 67.5 points per game on the season and will be playing against an Iowa State squad that will be without its star player Tyrese Haliburton who suffered a season-ending wrist injury during their Saturday games against Kansas State. The Sooners’ defense coupled with Haliburton’s absence is going to lead these teams to play to the under.

ODDS-115

MY PICK:
Under 145.5
