Houston Rockets vs Sacramento Kings 12/23/19 NBA Betting Odds and Prediction

Kings vs Rockets

The Houston Rockets head to the Golden 1 Center on Monday night to take on the Sacramento Kings in a Western Conference showdown.

The Rockets have won three straight games and are winners of seven out of their last 10 games. Behind the unstoppable James Harden, Houston defeated the Phoenix Suns 139-125 on Saturday night to move to 20-9 on the season, first in the Southwest Division. The Kings have lost three straight games and are losers of four out of their last five outings. Sacramento is coming off a sorry 115-119 loss to the lowly Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday night. The Kings defeated the Rockets 119-118 in their first meeting of the season last December 9, 2019, in Houston.

Harden’s Scoring Spree

James Harden has been on a scoring spree this season. The 2018 NBA MVP leads the league in scoring at 38.5 points per game this season and is coming off a 47-point explosion against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night. Harden has scored a total of 1124 points this season, the most by any player through 29 games since Rick Barry had 1,134 during the 1966-67 season.

But while Harden’s explosion is expected, the Rockets are also getting a big lift from Russell Westbrook. The 2017 NBA MVP is averaging 33.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in his last three games. Westbrook added 30 points on Saturday night as Houston rolled to its 10th win in their last 13 games played.

The Rockets are the second-highest scoring team in the NBA at 119.8 points per game this season. Houston is 5th in rebounding at 47.9 boards grabbed per contest and they are 26th in passing at 21.7 assists per game. The Rockets are allowing the 8th most points this season at 114.8 points per game.

Kings’ Offensive Struggles

The Sacramento Kings scored more than 105 points for the first time in five games but the Kings still lost to the Grizzlies 115-119 in Memphis. Buddy Hield has shot just 6-33 in their last two games played and the Kings have missed shooting guard Bogdan Bogdanovic in their last two games because of right ankle soreness.

Although they’ve lost three in a row, the Kings were glad to see De’Aaron Fox ease his way to the starting lineup and score 22 points against the Grizzlies. Fox had missed 17 games with a left ankle sprain and came off the bench in his first two games before Saturday. Harrison Barnes led the Kings with 25 points while Marvin Bagley had 11 points and 11 boards during Saturday’s loss.

The Kings are 25th in the NBA in scoring at only 105.1 points per game this season. Sacramento is ranked 29th in rebounding at 41.6 boards grabbed per contest and they are 24th in passing at 22.5 assists per game. Sacramento has the 18th best scoring defense in the league at only 107.9 points per game allowed.

Who Wins?

Houston is 5-1 SU in their last six games played. The Rockets are 5-0 SU in their last five games played on the road. Sacramento is 1-4 SU in their last five games played. The Kings are 6-5 SU in 11 home games played this season, and 4-1 SU in their last five games against the Western Conference. Head to head, the Rockets are 8-2 SU in their last 10 games played against the Kings. Houston is also 5-1 SU in their last six road games played against Sacramento.

The Rockets have been deadly behind the Harden and Westbrook tandem. Even without Eric Gordon, this team has won seven out of their last 10 games played. James Harden has been torching the nets this season and is coming off another big 40-point game against the Suns.

Sacramento won four out of five games but have since lost three in a row to the Charlotte Hornets, Indiana Pacers, and Memphis Grizzlies. Bogdan Bogdanovic is questionable for this game and that is only going to hurt the struggling Sacramento offense which has scored 105 or fewer points in four out of their last five games played.

Mike D’Antoni has defied his critics who said that the Beard and Brodie combination would not work. The Rockets are playing terrific basketball this season and are one of the best teams in the league right now. The Kings are still struggling to find their form, especially on offense. That’s not going to work against the team led by the best scorer in the league.

MY PICK:
ROCKETS

Other Bets To Make

Houston is 3-2 ATS in their last five games played. The Rockets are 8-7 ATS in 15 road games played this season, and 2-4 ATS in their last six Monday games played. Sacramento is 1-5 ATS in their last six games played. The Kings are 5-6 ATS in 11 home games played this season, and 1-5 ATS in their last six December games. Head to head, the Rockets are 4-1 ATS in their last five games played against the Kings.

Spread Odds:

  • Rockets -6 (-110) | Kings +6 (-110)

The Rockets are without Eric Gordon since November 12th but that hasn’t been a problem. The Rockets have scored at least 116 points in seven out of their last 10 games played. Meanwhile, the Kings’ offense has struggled in their last six games played and I think that Harden and Westbrook are going to go off here.

ODDS-110

MY PICK:
ROCKETS -6

The total has gone under in 16 out of the 29 games played by the Rockets this season. The under is 9-6 in the last 15 road games played by Houston. The total has gone under in 13 out of the last 20 games played by the Kings. Sacramento has seen the total go under in six out of their last eight games played at home. Head to head, the under is 6-4 in the last 10 games between these two teams.

Total Odds:

  • Over 228 (-110) | Under 228 (-110)
  • Odds from BetOnline as of 12/22/19

The under is a combined 34-24 in the total games of these two teams this season. The Rockets are a high-scoring team that doesn’t defend much. However, the Kings are in the bottom six in the league in scoring and are in the Top 11 in scoring defense. When you have two teams with contrasting styles, you have to think that the better team dictates the tempo of the game. The trends point to under and because the Kings have scored 105 or fewer points in five out of their last six games played, I will have to agree with the betting trends.
