Charlotte Hornets vs Denver Nuggets 01/15/20 NBA Betting Odds and Pick

Charlotte Hornets vs Denver Nuggets Logos - NBA Logo

The Charlotte Hornets travel to Mile High to take on the Denver Nuggets at the Pepsi Center on Wednesday night.

The Hornets head to this game having lost five in a row including three straight on the road. Charlotte will try to close out their four-game sojourn to he West with a victory but that is going to be tough against a Denver team which beat them by 13 points in the same venue just 10 days ago. The Nuggets are the best team in the Southwest Division but Denver has won just four times in their last seven games and they have blown hot and cold as of late. Denver lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers at their home floor last Saturday but beat the Los Angeles Clippers there the following day.

Five Game Losing Streak

The Charlotte Hornets head to Denver carrying a five-game losing streak. The Hornets have won only twice in their last 10 games played. The Hornets are in 9th place in the Eastern Conference team standings and if they want to remain in the playoff pace, they need to start picking up victories. This one will be tough though because Denver is 16-5 SU at the Pepsi Center this season.

In their last game, the Hornets suffered a three-point loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. Terry Rozier bounced back from a five-point effort to score 25 points, his 4th 23+ point outing in the last five games. Devonte Graham led Charlotte with 27 points while P.J. Washington had 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The Hornets rank next to last in scoring at 104.2 points per game and they are 16th in defense at 110.8 points per game allowed. Charlotte is averaging 42.7 rebounds per game and they are ranked 26th in that department. They are also 16th in the league in passing at 23.9 assists per game.

Win Over the Clippers

The Denver Nuggets passed a big test on Sunday night as they defeated the preseason favorites Los Angeles Clippers last Sunday. The win was a bounce-back game after Denver lost to Cleveland at their home floor one day earlier. Six out of Denver’s 12 losses this season have come against teams with 15 or fewer wins and three of those have come at home.

Nikola Jokic had 20 points and 15 boards in their last game against the Clippers. Jamal Murray finished with 19 points while rookie Michael Porter Jr. continued to impress with 13 points off the bench. Gary Harris added 15 points while Jerami Grant played tough defense on Kawhi Leonard down the stretch to help the Nuggets win.

The Nuggets are 20th in the NBA in scoring at only 109.1 points per game. They are 5th when it comes to scoring defense at only 105.4 points per game given up. Denver is the 4th best passing team in the league at 26.2 assists per game and they are 19th off the glass with 44.4 rebounds per contest.

Who Wins?

Charlotte is 0-5 SU in their last five games played. The Hornets are 2-4 SU in their last six games played on the road, and 1-6 SU in their last seven games played against the Western Conference. Denver is 13-4 SU in their last 17 games played. The Nuggets are 13-3 SU in their last 16 games played at home, and 4-2 SU in their last six games against the Eastern Conference. Head to head, the Hornets ad 8-4 SU in their last 12 games played against Denver.

Charlotte has lost five straight and they are 2-8 SU in their last 10 games played. They are 0-3 in their current four-game road swing to the West and have Tuesday to regroup. Terry Rozier has scored at least 23 points in four out of his last five games played but Charlotte will need more against the Nuggets.

Denver has been modest at 4-3 SU in their last seven games played and they have suffered unexpected losses to Cleveland, Washington, New Orleans in their last 10 games. However, the Nuggets head to this game after a big home win against the Los Angeles Clippers.

We’ve seen Denver stumble against some lower-ranked teams as of late and I’m sure they won’t allow another letdown after their last home loss to the Cavaliers. Jokic is coming off a 20-15 night against the Clippers and even with Paul Millsap questionable, the Nuggets will have more than enough on their plate to win this.

MY PICK:
DENVER NUGGETS

Other Bets To Make

The Hornets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games played. Charlotte is 4-1 ATS in their last five games played on the road. The Nuggets are 4-2 ATS in their last six games played. Denver is 3-2 ATS in their last five home games, and 4-2 ATS in their last six January games. Head to head, Charlotte is 8-4 ATS in their last 12 games played against Denver.

Spread Odds:

  • Hornets +11 (-110) | Nuggets -11 (-110)
  • Odds from Bet365 as of 01/15/20

The Nuggets have outscored the Nuggets by an average of 8.0 points per game in their last three encounters. Denver beat this same Charlotte team by 13 points in their first meeting of the season last January 5th. Charlotte has lost five in a row but they got beaten by more than 12 points only once during that span and three of their losses during that period have been by single digits. Denver has been solid this season but they’ve suffered unexpected losses to the Pelicans, Wizards, and Cavs in their last 10 games played. I don’t think Charlotte wins this but with the way the Nuggets have suffered letdowns against the weaker teams, I like the Hornets to keep this close.

MY PICK:
HORNETS +11

The total has gone over in five out of the last seven games played by Charlotte. The over is also 4-2 in the Hornets’ last six games played on the road. The total has gone over in 11 out of the last 16 games played by the Nuggets. The under is 3-2 in Denver’s last five games played at home. Head to head, the total has gone over in four out of the last five games between these two teams.

Total Odds:

  • Over 209.5 (-110) | Under 209.5 (-110)
  • Odds from Bet365 as of 01/15/20

These teams have combined to score an average of 226.0 points in their last three meetings with the total hitting over in all three games. Charlotte has allowed at least 110 points in four out of their last six games played while Denver has scored an average of 114.17 points per game in their last six games played. With the way the Nuggets have been putting up points as of late, they shouldn’t have a hard time helping the total go over against the Hornets’ bottom 15 defense.
