Memphis Grizzlies vs L.A. Clippers 02/24/20 NBA Betting Odds and Pick

Memphis Grizzlies vs L.A. Clippers Logos - NBA Logo

The Cleveland Cavaliers visit the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on February 5, 2020.

Cleveland heads to OKC with just one win their last 12 games played. The Cavs have lost four in a row and it will be interesting to see what the team is going to do during Thursday’s trade deadline. Cleveland is in rebuilding mode and veteran mainstays Kevin Love and Tristan Thompson are rumored to be on the move. The Thunder were supposed to be a rebuilding team this season but they have surprised the experts by being one of the playoff teams in the West. Chris Paul is having a resurgent season while newcomers Danilo Gallinari and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander are having terrific seasons.

Back to Back Losses

The Memphis Grizzlies are still licking the wounds suffered from their 105-117 setback to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night. The loss was the Grizzlies’ second straight and their first back to back losses since January 23rd. Despite the loss, Memphis is still in 8th place in the Western Conference with a record of 28-28.

Josh Jackson led the Grizzlies with a season-high 20 points while rookie sensation Ja Morant added 17 points and three assists. Gorgui Dieng had 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench and Brandon Clarke shot 7-11 from the field for 14 points for Memphis which won 8 of 10 games heading to the All-Star break.

The Grizzlies rank 11th in the league in scoring at 113.1 points per game. They are the top passing team in the league at 27.2 assists per game and they rank 8th off the glass with an average of 46.0 rebounds grabbed per contest. Memphis has the 8th worst scoring defense in the NBA at 114.8 points per game allowed.

Third Straight Defeat

The Los Angeles Clippers suffered a third straight defeat when they lost to the Sacramento Kings 103-112 last Saturday night. The loss was their second to the Kings at Staples Center in less than a month’s time. The Clippers have dropped four out of their last five contests and this isn’t the time for them to slump.

Kawhi Leonard scored 31 points in his first game after winning the MVP honors in the 2020 NBA All-Star game in Chicago. But the Clippers played without Paul George and Patrick Beverley while Leonard was shut down during a five minute period in the fourth quarter where the Kings took control of the game. Lou Williams added 24 points for L.A. and the team just completed the signing of guard Reggie Jackson who was released by the Detroit Pistons.

The Clippers rank 5th in the NBA in scoring at 115.9 points per game this season. They are the third-best rebounding team in the league at 48.2 boards grabbed per contest and are 17th in assists at 23.8 dimes per outing. L.A. ranks 14th overall when it comes to scoring defense at 110.3 points per game allowed.

Who Wins?

Memphis is 14-6 SU in their last 20 games played. The Grizzlies are 3-4 SU in their last seven games played on the road, and 6-12 SU in their last 18 Monday games. The L.A. Clippers are 1-4 SU in their last five games played. The Clippers are 3-2 SU in their last five games played at home, and 4-1 SU in their last five games against an opponent from the Southwest Division. Head to head, the Clippers are 6-4 in their last 10 games played against the Grizzlies.

The Grizzlies were one of the hottest teams in the league heading to the All-Star break. They went 8-2 SU going to the 2020 NBA All-Star weekend but have since lost to the Sacramento Kings and then the Lakers. Memphis is just 12-15 SU in 27 road games played so far this season.

The Clippers have not lived up to their hype. This despite Kawhi Leonard and Paul George playing together for some time now. Los Angeles has dropped four out of its last five assignments. The Clippers head to this contest after losing three straight games to the Sixers, Celtics, and Kings. L.A. is 37-19 SU on the season and they are a solid 22-6 SU at home this year.

The Grizzlies will be without Jaren Jackson Jr. for the next two weeks due to injury. On the other hand, the Clippers have added more firepower with Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson. When it comes to offense, I don’t think that Memphis can match L.A. here. I think that the Clippers respond to Kawhi’s callout and come out with a big win here.

ODDSN/A

MY PICK:
Los Angeles Clippers

Other Bets to Make

The Grizzlies are 8-4 ATS in their last 12 games played. Memphis is 3-4 ATS in their last seven games played on the road, 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games against the Western Conference, and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games played against the Pacific Division. The L.A. Clippers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games played. L.A. is 2-3 ATS in their last five games played at home, and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games played against the Western Conference.

Spread Odds:

  • Grizzlies +9.5 (-110) | Clippers -9.5 (-110)
  • Odds from SportsBetting as of 02/24/20

Memphis is without Jaren Jackson Jr. while the Clippers will be working with new pieces Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson Jr. Los Angeles is on a slide but this is the perfect game for them to get back on track. They are playing at home and they will face a Memphis team which is without one of its top players and big man. I expect the Clippers to respond to Kawhi’s call out.

ODDS-110

MY PICK:
Clippers -9.5

The total has gone under in three out of the last four games played by the Grizzlies. The over is 5-2 in Memphis’ last seven games played on the road. The under is 3-1 in the last four games played by the Clippers. L.A. has seen the total go under in six out of their last nine February games. Head to head, the total has gone over in 10 out of the last 13 meetings between these two teams. The over is 6-1 in their last seven games played in Memphis.

Over/Under Odds:

  • Over 223.5 (-110) | Under 223.5 (-110)
  • Odds from SportsBetting as of 02/24/20

Memphis is a bottom 10 defensive team and they have allowed at least 117 points in four out of their last six games played. The Clippers are one of the best scoring teams in the league this season and they have added more firepower with Marcus Morris and Reggie Jackson. L.A.’s defense has also been spotty as of late, as they have allowed north of 110 points per game in their last five out of their last outings, including two games where they gave up over 140 points. The Clippers take this game but they will do so with their offense.

ODDS-110

MY PICK:
Over 223.5
