Philadelphia 76ers vs Utah Jazz NBA Betting Odds and Preview

Philadelphia 76ers vs Utah Jazz Logos - NBA Logo

The Philadelphia 76ers continue their road trip as they head to Salt Lake City on 11/6/19 for a showdown with the Utah Jazz.

The Sixers continue their four-game road trip to the West on Wednesday when they play the Jazz at the Vivint Smart Home Arena. Philadelphia suffered their first loss of the season in Phoenix in their last outing. Meanwhile, the Jazz head home after back to back road losses to the Kings and Clippers. Utah is unbeaten at home this season with a 3-0 SU record. These teams played twice last season with the Sixers winning both games.

First Loss of the Season

The Philadelphia 76ers suffered their first loss of the season when they dropped a 109-114 assignment in Phoenix on Tuesday. The Sixers racked up five straight wins to start the season but the absence of All-Star center Joel Embiid proved to be costly against the Suns. Embiid missed the game as he was serving the second of his two-game suspension for fighting with Karl Anthony Towns.

Embiid is Philly’s top scorer at 23.3 points per game in four games played this season. Tobias Harris is the second 20-point scorer for the Sixers at 20.3 points per game. Al Horford is having a strong start in his new home with 18.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game for the 76ers. Ben Simmons is also contributing 15.0 points and 7.7 assists this season.

The Sixers are 14th in the league in scoring at 114.0 points per game this season. Philly ranks 7th in rebounding at 48.2 boards per contest and they are 4th in passing at 26.2 assists per game. Philadelphia is allowing its opponents to score an average of 107.3 points per game this season.

Moneyline Odds:

Unbeaten At Home

The Utah Jazz has now lost two in a row after putting together a three-game winning streak. Utah lost to the Kings on a last-second tip-in by Harrison Barnes and in their last outing, they couldn’t stop Kawhi Leonard in a defeat against the Clippers. Despite their recent struggles, the Jazz is unbeaten at home and they enter this game as the betting favorites to beat the Sixers.

Donovan Mitchell scored 36 points in a losing effort for Utah. Mitchell has scored at least 24 points in six out of the Jazz’s last seven games played. Mike Conley had a 29-point effort two games ago but is struggling at 31.8% from the field this season. Likewise, Rudy Gobert is off to a slow start with his 10.9 points per game average which is five points fewer than his average last season.

The Jazz rank 3rd from the bottom in scoring at only 100.0 points per game this season. However, they are the best defensive team in the league at 95.6 points per game allowed this year. Utah is last in the NBA in rebounding at 41.4 boards grabbed per contest. They are only 27th in assists at 19.7 dimes per contest.

Who Wins?

The Sixers are 5-1 SU in their last six games played. Philadelphia is 3-1 SU in their last four games played and 4-2 SU in their last six games against the Western Conference. The Jazz are 3-2 SU in their last five games played and 3-0 SU in their last three games played at home. Utah is 12-1 SU in their last 13 games against the Eastern Conference and 15-4 SU in their last 19 Wednesday games. Head to head, the Jazz is 6-4 SU in their last 10 games played against the Sixers but Philadelphia has won four out of the last five meetings.

The Sixers had a bad night in Phoenix. Not only did they miss Joel Embiid but Ben Simmons also had played a bad game. Embiid will return from his two-game suspension in this match and when you have your top-scorer back, that’s a huge boost. Simmons will also have a significant size advantage over Mike Conley, so I expect him to have a big game here.

The Jazz is unbeaten at home this season and they have the best defense in the league. That’s why they are the favorites in the top NBA betting sites. Also, Embiid only shot 43% against the Jazz last season so Rudy Gobert will be a factor here, especially on defense. But remember that Philly has won four out of five in Utah so this isn’t a daunting task to them. I expect the Sixers to have a bounce-back game and keep their lofty spot on top of the Eastern Conference.

Other Bets to Make

Philadelphia is 3-2-1 ATS in their last six games played and 1-2-1 ATS in four road games played this season. The Sixers are 4-2-1 ATS in their last six games against the Northwest Division. Utah is 2-5 ATS in their last seven games played. The Jazz is 2-1 ATS in three home games this season, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against the Atlantic Division and 4-8 ATS in their last 12 November games played. Head to head, the Sixers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against the Jazz.

Spread Odds:

  • 76ers +1.5 (-110) | Jazz -1.5 (-110)
  • Odds from BetOnline as of 11/05/19

Utah has outscored Philadelphia by an average of 4.6 points per game in their last 10 games played but the Sixers have outscored the Jazz by an average of 15.0 points per game in their last three meetings. The return of Joel Embiid should help the Sixers bounce back from their first loss of the season. I think that the Sixers are winning this game outright and to get them at plus 1.5 is a bonus.

MY PICK:
76ers +1.5

The total has gone under in 11 out of the last 15 games played by the Sixers. Philadelphia has seen the total go under in six out of their last nine road games. The total has gone under in each of the last 10 games played by the Jazz. The under is 5-0 in Utah’s last five games played at home. Head to head, the total has gone under in nine out of the last 11 games between these two teams and the under is also 5-0 in their last five games played in Salt Lake City.

Over/Under Odds:

  • Over 212 (-110) | Under 212 (-110)
  • Odds from BetOnline as of 11/05/19

These teams have combined to score 188.8 points per game in their last 10 meetings and 208.0 points per game in their last three games played. The Jazz is the best defensive team in the league when it comes to scoring defense as they have allowed only an average of 95.6 points per game this season. They have dictated the pace in all of their games played this season and no total has gone over 212 in any of their games this season. The Sixers are a high-scoring team (11th in the NBA) but they can engage opponents in a low-scoring affair if needed. I think these teams play to the Jazz’s tune here.
